Professor Jianbo Zhang graduated from the Department of Physics, Zhejiang University in 1982, and got his PhD in Physics in 1987 from Zhejiang University. He began the study of lattice gauge theory as early as 1983, when he was a graduate student. During his graduate study, his thesis project for PhD was the investigation the lattice gauge theory through analytic methods and numerical simulations. After he got PhD degree and become a faculty member of Zhejiang University, he undertook the research project of national science foundation for young researchers named “Topology in lattice gauge theory and High-Tc superconductivity''.  After 1990, he changed research interest to artificial neural network and high-Tc superconductivity. During 1993 and 1994, he spent more than a year at Niels Bohr Institute in Denmark to investigate artificial neural network.

He resumed the research of lattice gauge theory in 1996 as a key member to undertake the main project of national natural science foundation “The study of glueballs” , and using the tadpole-improved pure gauge action on anisotropic lattice to calculate SU(2) glueball spectrum. In 1998, he went to University of Kentucky to conduct collaborative research, the results about the study of overlap fermion was published in PRL. In 2000, he went to Adelaide University in Australia as a research associate, he spent 5 years there and did the research in the field of lattice index theorem, the topological property of QCD vacuum, quark and gluon propagator, baryon mass spectrum, the form factor and non-perturbative renormalization etc., and got many new results. In 2005, Professor Zhang came back to Zhejiang University. The main research interest now is the large scale simulation of lattice QCD. Since 2000, He has published more than 50 Journal papers and 40 conference proceedings, and total citations are more than 2000.

He has taught several courses for undergraduate students in Zhejiang University, including《University Physics I》,《University Physics II》, 《University Physics III》, 《Introduction to Astronomy》, 《Gravitation and Cosmology 》, 《Introduction to Modern Physics》, 《Introduction to Theoretical Physics》,etc.
