Dean Li Erping Was Invited to Attend the Inauguration Ceremony of the New President of Harvard University

On October 5, Prof. Li Erping, Dean of ZJUI, was invited to attend the Digital Transformation in the Changing World and Digital Science Academic Forum held at Harvard University. The Forum, attended by scholars from Harvard University and other prestigious universities and institutions, focuses on the challenges about fundamental scientific theory and applied research arising from the current changes in digital science. The Forum coincided with the inauguration of Prof. Lawrence S. Bacow, the 29th President of Harvard University. Prof. Li was invited to attend the ceremony and presented gifts to the new President on behalf of Zhejiang University.

In a brief conversation with Bacow, Prof. Li conveyed ZJU President Wu Zhaohui's heartfelt congratulations and cordial greetings to the President Bacow. He hoped that the two schools could further strengthen cooperation in various fields, deepen academic exchanges and promote common development of the two schools, and sincerely invited President Bacow to visit Zhejiang university at a convenient time. President Bacow thanked Prof. Li for his gift on behalf of Zhejiang university and his participation in the inauguration ceremony. President Bacow said that during his tenure he would further expand cooperation with Zhejiang university and he looked forward to visiting Zhejiang University in the future.

Born in Detroit in 1951, Prof. Bacow holds a bachelor's degree from MIT, a master's degree and a PhD from Harvard University. In 2001, he was elected President of Tufts University. In 2010, then-president Obama appointed him to the White House Advisory Board. In 2011, Prof. Bacow entered Harvard board, become a member of the two management teams. In addition, he also served and taught at Harvard Education College and Kennedy College. In 2017, Harvard University began the selection of a new principal, and earlier this year, Prof. Bacow stood out from 700 candidates, and ultimately elected to be the new principal. Prof. Bacow, who has rich experience in university management, said at the inauguration ceremony that he will lead the faculty and students of Harvard University to meet the common challenges faced by the university, reshape the value of higher education, defend the values that Harvard University has held for hundreds of years, and fulfill the sacred duty and mission given to Harvard by the state and society.
