近日，浙江大学爱丁堡大学联合学院刘琬璐研究员团队与加州大学洛杉矶分校Steven E. Jacobsen教授合作在Nature Communications杂志发表题为Ectopic targeting of CG DNA methylation in Arabidopsis with the bacterial SssI methyltransferase的研究论文。该研究通过zinc fingers（ZF）将细菌内特有的甲基转移酶Spiroplasma sp. strain MQ1 CG methyltransferase M.SssI (SssI) 靶向拟南芥FLOWERING WAGENINGEN (FWA) 基因的启动子，构建了可遗传的FWA基因启动子CG甲基化拟南芥模型（图一）。同时作者在拟南芥的全基因组上观察到了大量广泛分布的异位CG甲基化（图二A，B）。
